Who: All who care for children, in any way, who want to learn in a peer-based opportunity.
What’s different about Parent & Community Cafes compared to parenting classes?
Cafes are an open and collaborative opportunity to explore questions related to raising and supporting children and youth, creating healthy families and communities. Self-reflection is encouraged. In a Cafe, there is no one expert – these are peer spaces where the expertise in each individual is honored. Cafes are strengths based and use the Strengthening Families Protective Factors framework.
About this theme: We know that abuse and neglect are still common in the lives of Oregon’s children and youth. To change that, CSAW takes guidance directly from young people across the state. In honor of Child Abuse Prevention Month, and holding fast to the core belief that change is possible, the Café team will share recent insights from youth drawn from CSAW research, and Café conversations will explore what we can do as adults to put those insights into practice in our own lives and communities.
What’s different about a Prevention Cafe? In a Prevention Cafe, we retain the excellent, proven structure and “vibe” of a typical Parent & Community Café but replace the personal story with a practical tool from the research into child and family wellbeing. We spend our time together working directly with this tool.
When: Thursday, January 15, 2026, 6 to 8 pm on Zoom.
Cost? All Cafés are free to attend.
Language and accessibility: All of our Cafés are bilingual. For this one we will present in English with Spanish interpretation, and small group conversations will happen in one chosen language. We are also able to offer ASL interpretation with at least one week’s notice.
